Baldur's Gate 3 is based on the 5th edition of the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop role-playing game. The game is based on the 5th-edition Dungeons & Dragons rule set, though it includes tweaks and modifications that Larian found necessary in adapting it to a video game.

these games may be coming, as this could be hours before a real announcement, or months, given the August notification. But it does appear to be happening at some point given the recent relationship between Microsoft and Larian.

The story spans over three acts that each took me around 40 hours to complete, playing like an obsessive completionist and finishing as many side objectives as I could. Each has a very distinct vibe and look, aided by an evocative and lively soundtrack. Act 1 is mostly idyllic wilderness, Act 2 is the spooky part, and Act 3 treats us to dense, urban adventuring.

The game incorporates a roster of 10 companion characters who are available for players to enlist in their party. Each of these characters has a personal story and a narrative that the player can explore further.

Edwin Odesseiron is a haughty member of the Red Wizards of Thay who seeks the player character's cooperation to kill a potential companion, the witch Dynaheir, and will join the party if the player character agrees to help him. He may also be recruited in Shadows of Amn, where he may be encountered as an agent employed by the Shadow Thieves of Amn.

, a sister title to the OG Baldur’s Gate games, is worth giving a shot. In it you play The Nameless One, a man with no memories in search of his identity and the reason he can’t seem to die.

Just make sure to read the fine print so you don’t, for example, drink the invisibility potion that’s supposed to last 10 turns and immediately do an attack, which of course cancels the potion and makes you visible again. (Not that I’ve done this.)

The ability to keep track of in-game time through the changes in lighting and the activity that is occurring. Characters become fatigued after spending a full in-game day, especially after travelling long distances between world map locations, and must rest to recover, either in an inn or camping out in the countryside/within a dungeon.

OK, OK – you can dip your weapons, but only once you’ve actually learned how to do everything else in the combat menu first. Like I said before, this tool doesn’t apply to dipping your weapons into an acid vial or any other potion you have on hand.

And while it’s doubtful that any game will ever match that level of flexibility, Baldur's Gate 3 is a big step forward from what we’ve been able to do in the likes of Skyrim or Dragon Age. Those gates aren't going to stop a determined warlock.

You can only dip your weapon into a substance that’s already nearby in the physical world, like a grease puddle on the ground or whatever. It sounds useful, but again, I’ve been playing Baldur’s Gate 3
